Maligano Jasper

Maligano Jasper is one of the most painterly and visually complex jaspers I work with, sourced from the Maligano region of Sulawesi, Indonesia, where it forms in vivid, swirling compositions of mustard yellow, burnt orange, deep brown, cream, and black. What makes this material truly exceptional is the way its colors flow and interact across the surface of each cabochon in patterns that resemble abstract expressionist paintings, with no two pieces sharing the same composition and every cut revealing a completely new arrangement of color and form.

Maligano Jasper is a silicified volcanic material, formed when silica-rich fluids infiltrated and replaced volcanic rock over millions of years, incorporating iron and other trace minerals that produced its characteristic warm, earthy color palette. It was introduced to the international lapidary market relatively recently and quickly gained a devoted following among collectors and makers who prize its bold, graphic patterning and the way it commands attention in a finished piece without requiring any additional embellishment.

Metaphysical & Energy Properties

  • Maligano Jasper is associated with creativity, vitality, and the courage to express one's authentic vision, believed to stimulate the imagination and support bold, decisive action in both artistic and personal pursuits.
  • It is connected to the solar plexus and sacral chakras, viewed as a stone of warmth and personal power that encourages confidence, enthusiasm, and a joyful engagement with the creative process.
  • Many practitioners work with this stone for its grounding yet energizing quality, thought to anchor scattered energy while simultaneously igniting motivation and a sense of purposeful forward momentum.
